Wednesday October 11th, civil society organisations in France which fight against terrorism and for peace and coexistence demonstrated against the Qatari candidancy To the presidency of the Unesco a few hours before the declaration of the final round. The leader of the movement imam Hassen Chalghoumi, the president of the conference of the imams of France and the founder of a peace movement entittled “the Union of Nations for Peace ” explained that accepting that one of the main countries that finance terrorism Will be at the head of the Unesco is just scandalous. Being one of the few imams who fights against terrorism in public, Chalghoumi and his supporters believed that the Unesco is a prestigious institution that has To be a bridge between the different cultures. Among the other supporters, Rezk Shehata, the Egyptian Copt movement leader and spokesman who defends  the Copt minorities  in Egypt who suffered a lot of the Muslim Brotherhood movement supported by Qatar.Marouan Rwihi a peace activist of Morrocan descent ,the leader of Micra movement and Eric Gozlan a writer and peace activist as well. The demonstrators showed their determination To support the French candidate Mrs Audrey Azoulay who incarnates the values and the principles of the organisation. The final results were in favor of the French and Morrocan candidate who symbolises an openness and a marriage between different cultures and origins and who is also committed To promote culture, education and gender equality in the world giving France a key role To play in the coming years in the MENA region and in the world .
